... who we are

Touching the Earth Lightly (TEL) is a call to action...

One that combines people, design and conservation

It expresses a relationship between humans and the earth based on custodianship, sensitivity and respect, that results in developments that have the least possible impact (both visually and physically) on the natural & cultural landscape, and that reflect both internally and externally, the “sense of place” evoked by the intrinsic qualities of the landscape.

Our most important obligation to our fellow man is job creation. We need to create and sustain meaningful job opportunities for poor people in the conservation sector

Every person, irrelevant of their formal education or lack of it, has the ability to design, to create, to freely express with an authentic voice

The poor (not the rich) are the mothers and fathers of innovative and ingenious design

The concept of eco-poverty-alleviation projects should be applied world-wide

Nature presents herself, her beauty, her ideas, her simplicity and her complexities freely and without prejudice, to everyone

Stephen Lamb (center back, in the picture on the left) has over fourteen years of experience working in and with conservation bodies, NGO’s and social development groups.

Stephen has a passion for working with people and the natural environment in rural and developing countries.

For the last eight and a half years he has worked outdoors with disadvantaged communities developing synergies between the needs of the natural and built environment with a focus on job creation, poverty alleviation, biodiversity conservation and sustainable energy sources.

An outdoors man and conservation activist at heart, he is always looking to find new and innovative ways of building, designing and creating.

Stephen has been recognized for his achievements in this regard and has received several awards for his achievements in this field. Stephen is also passionate about photography, surfing and hiking.
